Abstract

In the new generation of technology, the society is being disruptively impacted in a transversely way the common and traditional dynamics of its life in its homes, finances, mobility, food, health, and others. Responding the globalization trends, different stakeholders are investing in high technology to assume the fourth technological era. In consequence, the concept of shared economy has become a new economy production method, which is born from a new form of production by sharing what you have and earning remuneration through the virtual platforms as Uber, Cabify, AIRBNB, inDriver, Zipcar and others. These new technologies represent challenges in various dimensions, including city management. In this study it was analyzed the case of AIRBNB in the capital of Ecuador, urban Quito, and the conurbation of the valleys (Los Valles). The objective is to analyze the territorial patterns of
the service, the variables that allow an Airbnb to exist and its relationship with a possible gentrification, although there are no substantial studies of it. It is also studied, the role of proximity to milestones, provision of services and territorial heterogeneity in the socio-spatial dynamics of Airbnb accommodations. This study will allow decision makers to diagnose how the Airbnb service is positioning itself in the city and to be able to anticipate possible unplanned urban gentrification because of the processes of “new urban colonialism”.
