Relationship between typologies and perceptions of public green spaces on the riverfront of the Limay River (Metropolitan Area of Neuquén, Argentina)

Authors

Abstract

Knowledge of the perception and preferences of users of waterfronts, and in particular riverfronts, is essential for their sustainable design and management. The aim of this work is to establish relationships between different typologies of riverside public green spaces (PVS) on the riverfront of the Limay River in the cities of Neuquén and Plottier and the perception that users have about them. For this purpose, five PVS were selected and classified according to the methodology "Spectrum of Recreational Opportunities". Subsequently, the perception and uses of the PVSs of interest were appreciated through a virtual survey of their users. Finally, the existence of relationships between the perception of the participants and the types of PVS was analyzed through a descriptive non-parametric
statistical analysis. The results show a preferential choice of the participants for modern PVS. At the same time, they suggest that the different types of PVS do not necessarily lead to differences in the experimentation of the subjective nature, while the quality of the public space has a great weight in the recreational experience.
